The Writing Garden

A place where ideas are listened to before they become writing.

Sometimes a thought stays with us for years.
Sometimes a memory returns quietly.
Sometimes an idea simply waits for the right moment to be explored.

Often these things have been quietly living in the heart.

In The Writing Garden we call these seeds.

Seeds do not need to be forced.
They simply need a little attention.

What the Garden Is

Most writing begins with an attempt to produce words.

The Writing Garden begins earlier than that.

It begins with listening.

Every writer already carries ideas within them.

Writing often begins when something that has been quietly carried is finally recognized.

The Writing Garden helps writers move from:

Carrying RecognizingWriting

Not from:

No ideasFind ideasWrite

The difference is important.

When an idea becomes clear, the writing naturally follows.

The garden simply provides the space where this can happen.

Experience It First

Before planting anything, we invite you to simply experience the garden.

Spend a few minutes exploring an idea with a Listening Partner.

There is no pressure to write anything.

Just begin with whatever thought, memory, or question has been on your mind.

Sometimes a seed reveals itself in unexpected ways.

Seeds

For writers who discover — or already recognize — an idea they would like to explore more deeply, the garden offers Seeds.

Seeds is a seven-week exploration where one idea is gently nurtured with the support of a Listening Partner until it becomes a finished piece of writing.

Each week explores a different stage in the life of the seed:

Noticing
Context
Meaning
Shaping
Writing
Refinement
Bloom

The garden provides the conditions.

The writing grows from the seed itself.

The Seven-Week Exploration

Foundation

Some seeds appear quickly.

Some take time.

The Writing Garden is simply a place where ideas can be noticed and explored.

You are welcome to return whenever a seed appears.
